Our inaugural discussion between members of the EMBA Collective will be hosted by Professor Roberto Rigobon of MIT.

We begin this speaker series with an interesting topic to ask how we measure the United States right now and the challenges in our financial system.

First, how do we compute the growth rate of AI? If profits increase for the firms and labor share goes down, then that is not actually growth but rather a transfer. Even though the stock market goes up, the GDP does not. Real productivity requires both profits and wages to go up.

Second, analyzing unemployment and deportations. The fact that unemployment is going up at the same time as deportations are rising implies that the labor market is doing much worse.

Third, the risk of our national deficit with high interest rates.

We will walk through several back of the envelope calculations worth discussion as a way to learn how we can assess the United States right now.
